i am also a self taught programmer(dont have any official certificates in IT field)

and have been constantly pursuing career in IT field and till now i havent got any and have been rejected from few…i dont it is a problem of my experience or my knowledge because i have a pretty decent knowledge of programming and also have a attractive protfolio to showcase it(can say this because i have seen another person with a valid certificate but who has less knowledge and experience get selected for the same position in same company twice)

all i have got is freelancing jobs till now😥

It’s better to have degree, because a person with degree competing you will be in better position of getting selected especially if he/she/them are of computer science.

Yes, It’ll be tough compared to the ones with degree. But It’s not impossible, so I can work with that.

Also please do give suggestions properly, sounds like someone trying to demotivate.

Yes, you can just follow either of the following steps:

      1. Become a freelancer (the only downside being unstable income)
      2. start your company ( i mean pretty self-explanatory)
      3. build an excellent resume and portfolio use every second of your free time to build a project and learn new stuff along with it because you saying you have “X” and “Y” skills is way less effective than throwing 100s of excellent personal projects at the recruiters face.
      4. instead of just focusing on one skill try to learn many you have to be a jack of all trades and master of one at the same time.
      5. Networking: this is by far the most important factor create a LinkedIn account and interact with hundreds of people per day improve your communication skills, and throw your ego in the trash because there is always a bigger fish

Competitions tough out their degree holders also follow all these steps so, in the end, the only factor will be how much work you’re ready to put in.

First of all I don’t agree to this term self taught, it is always someone who teaches you may be a youtuber or an official documentation or book or an Udemy course or similar online platform course or an open online course among various others. Of course the things you will grab will depend on you but at the same time it depends on other side.

There is nothing wrong with any of these mediums of study and you can always make your living out of it but it will be always slightly more difficult if you go out of social structure. If you want something like stable job, think it in terms of recruiter; whether he will believe a 4 years of education + skills shown in one day of interview +tests against just one day of interview + skills. Anyone will go with low risk and hire a certificate guy/gal unless he/she is total dumb which is very unlikely. At specific thing someone with specialized training of 6 month training might be better but for long terms goal and unknowns it is always better for companies to hire candidates with verified academic background. There is always exceptions for gifted minds or extremely motivated and hard working candidate; unfortunately those are hard to judge for normal person and people always like to back their decision on some facts.

        Self Taught:

Having acquired knowledge or skill on one’s own initiative rather than through formal instruction or training.

        &&

“Anyone will go with low risk and hire a certificate guy/gal unless he/she is total dumb which is very unlikely.” I think those who have completed their degree and still think most of the students who have completed their degree would add much to them, they’re dumb, as most of the students have just studied to pass the exams. They won’t even remember 1/10th of the things they were taught in colleges. Hardworking doesn’t make any difference & Colleges degrees are no more different than recommendation letter unless the colleges is really top notch (like top 1% that is also not just in terms of ranking).

Even I joined the college & didn’t like it a bit, really exam focused teaching i.e. also half-assed. Teachers are there just to read out the books/notes & leave. In the end, self-study is necessary. Now why to go for college, when all they are giving me is recommendation letter.

Don’t talk about networking, most of the friends made in school or colleges are *forced* friends, we just become friends because we have to spent whole day together. Barely few are connected after school/college ends..

About self taught I think you missed the term “I don’t agree” with common perception of it. If you watch some videos of other or read any writing by other and give yourself an satisfaction of calling it self taught then I don’t have to add anything to it.
About dumb if you think whole of the society is dumb then good luck!
About not remembering things read in bachelor you only need to have the concept; it is not about remembering the specifics, I doubt even the things you will grab through so called self taught will persist as A-Z unless all you read is that.
If there is problem with Nepal education system and the approach teachers take, it is still far more useful then having nothing.
About last point, present matters as well everything is not done with future in mind. If you talk about forced relations even your parents, siblings are forced by nature that don’t mean you don’t get along well with them. May be a meta verse will be more appropriate for you to live one.
