say these are the topics of a particular chapter:
RSA, symmetric vs asymmetric key cryptography, digital signatures, PGP, SSL, VPN, IPsec, WEP, Firewall and its types, IDS
Say you’re studying about symmetric vs asymmetric key cryptography.
How much time would you give to it before giving up? Giving up in the sense that you tried to learn your best but could not due to some reasons. So, you decide to learn few bits of information to write in exam to get some marks and skip that topic.
I’m not confused in this particular topic, I’m just giving an example to explain my question.
And when will you see that topic that got you confused? After how many days?
I just understand the concept about topic in my own nepali language and try to remember 2-3 times than i tried to write this concept in my own words which i understand about this topic and i also add some sentences about this topic in my own words. Go for 1-2 hrs. along with it go with different study materials.
Important while learning is not to skip topics, textbooks are good because of this only they are arranged properly in sequential manner; they also specify the target audience and the understanding that it assumes the readers have. If we don’t understand something, it usually means we are jumping into the topics without understanding the basics. At least whenever I face such issue it turns out to be this.
About understanding the more time you invest better the understanding will get, it all depends on your desire to go in depth.
About exams, it is absolutely fine to cover yourself grabbing few keywords even if you don’t understand it exactly. I doubt even the teachers teaching you understand 50% of things they are writing in the board or uttering out of their mouth.
Revisiting is always good as your capability to understand complex writings will increase with time and knowledge you have. Even the time taken will drastically reduce depending upon how much study you do. That’s why it is important to get topics cleared when and where you face it as it will kind of act as dependency for your further readings.
I technique that works for me is to just go through the text one time. Sometimes the concept are pretty clear so I try to interpret in my own language and write it.
If the concept is not clear, I surf through the internet/youtube where some guy is explaining. It will make the concept clear then I write it on paper on my own language.
After completing the syllabus, I just go through each topic once to take quick glimpse.
That somehow works for me, hope it helps you.
