What core CPU should I’ve and of what generation? I’ve core i5, 7th generation. I heard somewhere that using VM on old CPU isn’t very handy and that I should instead install linux and do programming on it.

There is no one answer to this question, as the system requirements for using a virtual machine in Windows 10 will vary depending on the specific virtual machine software you are using, as well as the operating system and applications you plan to run inside the virtual machine. However, in general, you will need a computer with a fairly powerful processor and enough memory to support the virtual machine, as well as any operating system and applications you plan to run inside it. You will also need to have enough storage space available to accommodate the virtual machine‘s virtual disk file.
You should have at least a CPU with 4 threads (also called logical processors) and virtualization enabled in order to run virtual machines and RAM with 4 GB for decent performance.

I have i5 3rd gen and its completely fine but i am giving memory of 8 gb to virtual box. My total memory is 16.
bro which laptop is yours? you’re giving me some hope bro.
I am using Desktop. I5 3330 @ 3.00 GHz 16Gb ram.
Let me give you some tips for fastening if it runs slow:
1. Enable GPU hardware acceleration.
2. Install Linux version 16 stable one.
3. While installing iso file Keep in mind give half of your memory of your pc as i have 16 so i am giving it 8gb and give 35 or more gb harddisk if you are not storing any files it wont take this much memory you are virtually giving this storage so don’t worry brother.
This will work fine brother i5 7th gen is more than enough for virtaul box running linux.

Virtual Machine can be ran in machine with processor as low as dual core, and 4 gigs RAM. Your specs are way higher.
can it be ran smoothly is the question though. I don’t think so. Ffs man कती पर्ल latest CPU को ल्यापटप for programming web development. 150K+ ghati ma audaina hola halk future proof (4-5 years) laptop. Tell me what to do? Upgrade doesn’t seem to be worth it.
Why don’t you try Ryzen processors?
They utilize multi threading with multi core so you should be able to get a Ryzen 7 (which is noted to be better than i7) at a reasonable price. If you need more speed, you can order an overclocked processor but be careful though, because they won’t provide service if the overclocking is not done by official parties.
Also note that a ryzen processor needs different socket than intel one, so mother board with AM4 cpu socket is the best (in case you want to upgrade to ryzen 9 in the future)
Ryzen 5 is good for budget processor for a laptop, it has like 6 core and 12 threads so thats more than you need to code. If you want more, try ryzen 7 laptops.
And for smooth data transactions, try SSD with M.2 form factor (for OS and other software) and HDD or normal SSD for just storing data.
I would give you the name of laptop but I figured this will be more helpful in the long run.
All the best.
this much is enough to run a virtualbox…i used to run virtualbox on my i3 gen5 with 4gb ram 512gb hdd
